Starting in 2004, Acacia Fraternity hosted a used-textbook drive every semester. With the increase of rental textbooks and e-books, we have moved in a new direction. We are now partnering with Youth and Shelter Services to who is in the business of changing lives, giving hope and improving odds by ensuring that youth have access to safety, guidance and caring adults. YSS is helping to instill values that they will carry with them for their entire lives, like self-reliance, forgiveness and respect for others and themselves. Acacia helped sponsor a 5K run/walk in November. We also have several members participating in donation drives and taking part in GRIP mentoring with challenged children at the shelter. A majority of our members also serve our community through their efforts with organizations such as Ames Emergency Residency Project, Foot at First, Students Helping Our Peers & Student Volunteer Services. Philanthropy also plays a large role in the lives of the Men of Acacia. †
At Acacia, we are proud of our chapter facility. We maintain a home-like atmosphere with twenty-four hour open kitchens, suite style living, no cold airs, and in many cases, private bathrooms. Our current facility was originally a bed-and-breakfast, and we have occupied it since our re-colonization in 2000. The building features modern amenities including wifi, ethernet, cable TV, and a recently renovated study library and basement. Take a virtual tour>>
