"Human Service" is the motto of Acacia Fraternity. Each year, the fraternity holds unique philanthropic events to benefit the Shriner’s Burn Hospitals, which provide free hospitalization and care to children whose families can not afford their treatment, as well as other charities. Listed below are the philanthropies we do throughout the year.
Waterball is an event where the Ames Fire Department hangs a barrel on a rope tethered between two trucks and two teams try to blast the barrel to their opponent's side using a huge fire hose. This reverse tug-of-war event is usually held in the spring and brings 75 to 100 participants each year from the Iowa State community.
An Acacia tradition, Seven Days of Service is a week long attempt to improve the local community. Each day members of the fraternity take part in a different service project.
Recently co-founded by a member our chapter, Pages of Promise is an organization that collects new and used textbooks to send to schools in Africa. Over 200,000 books are sent to Africa each year.
