Parkersberg Area Tornado Relief Effort

As most of you know, on May 25, 2008, one of the largest tornados ever to touch down in Iowa (an EF5) ravaged the community of Parkersburg and its surrounding area. The fatal storm tragically took the lives of 8 members of the community with a number of others injured. If that wasn't enough, the town was leveled including the Applington-Parkersburg High School. The video above shows just a small taste of the horror in the community.

These people are need of all the support they can get. Volunteers are desperately needed and here is our chance to really make a great impact in a community that hits close to home. Currently simple debris cleanup is in the highest demand.

Additionally, debris has been strewn about hundreds of acres of farmland. This debris needs to be removed before these hardworking Iowans can get back to their fields.

Many individuals and organizations want to help but aren't sure how. For an avenue to make a difference, The Construction Engineering Department and AGC is going to act as a conduit to bring together willing volunteers with the people who need help the most. If you are interested in helping, please fill out one of the following three forms. Get together with your family, your colleagues from work, your book club, or any other organization and get involved in the effort.

To get the most current information on the Parkersburg Volunteer effort, please call the Iowa Concern Hotline [(800) 447-1985].

Pictured above is a tree in the Parkersburg Community. Notice the flag that has been posted on the tree. This is a great reminder that we can come together in times of hardship and need and make a difference for those in need. From the descruction of Mississippi, to the disaster that is Parkersburg, to the dugouts of the 13th St, we can as a student organization, school, and cmmunity come together and do out part to help the cause.
