Alpha Gamma Rho is a national agricultural fraternity. All the members have agriculture majors; therefore AGR is the only professional and social fraternity at Iowa State University. Nationwide, there are 65 AGR chapters with over 50,000 members who are currently active in the agricultural industry.

The purpose of Alpha Gamma Rho is "To Make Better Men" and the men of Eta Chapter strive to meet the challenge of this purpose. The men of Alpha Gamma Rho are known as leaders on campus, gentlemen, and academically inclined in the College of Agriculture. The Alumni of AGR are innovators, and educators in agriculture. All of these can be credited to Alpha Gamma Rho's past and present. Currently, the future looks just as bright.

In of August of 2004, members of Eta chapter attended the Alpha Gamma Rho National Convention in Columbus, OH. The Alpha Gamma Rho national fraternity awards the nation’s top chapter with the Maynard H. Coe award and Eta chapter was the recipient of the award for 2004. The chapter also excelled in receiving top awards in 8 of 9 categories based on criteria that make AGR chapters successful.

AGR sets the standard of excellence nationally and locally. When one walks into Alpha Gamma Rho's front door, you can see the success of the chapter by the well-decorated walls and the full trophy case. The chapter has received the ISU Presidents Award for Fraternal Excellence many times. In the trophy case one can find numerous trophies from Homecoming, Varieties, and Greek Week.

In past years, Eta chapter has been recognized for their caring and concern beyond the campus setting. Governor Vilsack declared April 25th, 2000 as Alpha Gamma Rho Day for "...dedicating themselves to caring and providing assistance to Tiffany and Caleb Lichty through child care, home repairs, and financial assistance..." This distinguished honor was credited to the chapter for their ongoing commitment to the widow and the son of Brother Matt Lichty who was killed in an auto accident in November 1997.

What makes Alpha Gamma Rho so successful? Besides having successful active members, AGR prides themselves with successful alumni. Some of which include Herb Plambeck, Homer Hanson, William Latham, Governor Terry Bransted, U.S. Senator Charles Grassley, and U.S. Representative Tom Latham. The Alumni have generously supported Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and are often found visiting their home at 201Gray Ave.
