The Definition of "Civil Engineering"

"Civil engineering is the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and physical sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the progressive well-being of humanity in creating, improving, and protecting the environment, in providing facilities for community living, industry and transportation, and in providing structures for the use of humanity."

American Society of Civil Engineers, 1961

Get Involved In ASCE!

Joining ASCE is a great way to learn what Civil Engineering is all about. Our student chapter holds frequent meetings to keep each member in touch with what is going on with events, future meetings, and many other things that ASCE has to offer. Once a member of ASCE, one can also join the two clubs within ASCE, which are Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe. Throughout the school year, we also host speaker meetings for practicing professionals in the field of Civil Engineering. We hear what projects they are working on, and they answer questions any student happens to think of.

Why wait? Join ASCE today!
