Scholarship

Alpha Sigma Kappa women are highly devoted to academics. Since many of the women have taken similar classes, it becomes easy to find study partners and sisters to help tutor most classes.

There are many incentives for good grades and hard work. Each semester, the Academic Officer recognizes women in the sorority who have demonstrated a high level of academic success. In addition, women who have made the greatest improvement in their GPA are congratulated.

The sisters of Alpha Sigma Kappa are involved in many academic and social activities outside of Alpha Sigma Kappa, including:

  • Engineering Student Council
  • Eta Kappa Nu
  • Golden Key International Honor Society
  • Government of the Student Body
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • IEEE Women in Engineering Community
  • ISU Ambassadors
  • ISU Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society
  • National Society of Collegiate Scholars
  • Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society
  • Society of Women Engineers
  • Sports Clubs
  • Student Admissions Representative
  • Student Alumni Leadership Council
  • Study abroad programs
  • Tau Beta Pi
  • Women in Science and Engineering

The sisters of ASK have received many academic scholarships and maintain a sorority GPA (2.97) above the Iowa State University undergraduate student body average GPA (2.90).

  • Award for Competitive Excellence
  • College of Engineering Fund for Excellence

  • Dorris M. Ehret Tendall Scholarship

ASK women also help host the Women’s Professional Summit. This is a day held on campus for college women of all majors to come and talk with professionals in academia and industry. This day is filled with speeches and activities such as resume and interview workshops. This is a joint event between ASK, Women in Science and Engineering, and Society for Women Engineers.

Academic Enrichment Program

Alpha Sigma Kappa has recently created an Academic Enrichment Program for active members. This program is meant to encourage academic achievement through time management and accountability in academic performance. Sisters who are in need of additional scholastic assistance are encouraged to study with other active sisters and are supported by the Chapter in their endeavors to be successful in their studies.
