Assistant Safety Manager—Des Moines, IA location
Description: The Assistant Safety Manager will assist in providing safety and risk management to maintain a culture of safety excellence. Responsibilities include frequent safety audits, prompt and effective investigation of incidents or claims, guidance and advice to management and project team members, coordination of site plans, identify and conduct training, monitor trends, maintain and update safety programs and related materials, and oversight of safety committee.
The Successful Candidate will carry out functions under limited direct supervision. The candidate will have experience presenting information to varied audiences. Communication, attention to detail, and ability to utilize safety knowledge in a decisive manner is essential.
Requirements: This full time position requires a Bachelors degree in safety or related science with an emphasis in business or risk management coursework or equivalent, related experience one or more years of successful safety/risk management experience in industrial/construction preferred. Candidate must work effectively in a leadership role in a team environment. Computer experience in Microsoft office products required and Power-Point or Publisher is preferred.

Position: Environmental Health and Safety Manager Description: This position has the primary responsibility for managing and promulgating strong safety and loss control and environmental programs across the organization in the context of an already established and developing EHS program. Responsibilities: Assume the leadership role in the successful implementation and management of the Environmental Health and Safety Standards and the associated Auditing Programs. Monitor employee health and safety exposure and environmental aspects present at the site. Development and administration of policies and programs to ensure that compliance with the environmental, safety and health requirements. Coaching, teaching and reviewing the site for compliance to high EHS standards. Facilitate programs effectively with and through other management staff to obtain results. These activities will be coordinated with the Facility Management Team, the business unit EHS Director and the TEPS leadership team. Implementation of loss control measures including those required by FM Global, local fire departments and corporate and TEPS best practices. Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, physical science or related field. A Master’s Degree in a physical science related field is preferred. Professional Certification in EHS related fields preferred. Related experience within the discipline may considered when evaluating potential candidates for this position Responsibilities include: Managing compliance with federal, state and local EHS regulatory guidelines (EPA, RCRA, TSCA, OSHA, DOT, etc.)
Program management to include: EHS metrics reporting, Accident and Significant Event investigations, monitoring, permitting, training, planning, policy / procedure implementation.
Experience conducting investigations & root cause analysis, fed/state application of OSHA, RCRA, DOT, NPDES. Strong communication, interpersonal and computer skills. Requires a work history showing success at resolving complex implementation challenges. Requires Strong presentation and communication skills with all levels within the organization. Should have a strong knowledge of worker compensation management and related topics. This person will not be primarily responsible for workers compensation claim management but will need to be cognizant of the issues surrounding these programs.
