About the ISU Baseball Club

The Iowa State Baseball Club is an opportunity for any Iowa State student to play baseball. The club offers two great opportunities for players to continue playing the game of baseball, with both a fall and spring league.

Each fall the ISU Baseball club has an annual fall league. The fall league is for every member of the club and is played as a very fun, yet still competitive league. The fall coaches meet and divide the club's members into teams, and a schedule of games is made. The number of teams varies based on membership, in 2004 there were 5 teams with roughly 12-15 guys on each team. Practice for the fall league starts in early September, with games beginning in mid-September. The schedule usually goes through mid-October depending on weather. After the regular season is played, there is a season ending tournament between all of the teams. Overall the fall league is a very fun and enjoyable experience for players, as it is always solid and competitive baseball.

After the completion of the fall league, coaches meet to select a roster of the best players to play for the Spring travel team. The spring roster usually carries around 24 players. The travel league we play in is called the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA). The NCBA has over 80 teams across the nation competing in 20 conferences. Each conference winner advances to a regional, where the winners advance to the NCBA World Series (played in Niles, Ohio in 2006). The Iowa State Baseball team plays in the Central Plains North Conference along with the U of Iowa, U of Northern Iowa, U of South Dakota, U of Nebraska, and Minnesota State-Mankato. The spring schedule plays between 20-30 games, with both home and road series. Home games for the ISU Baseball club are played at Cap Timm Field. Games against local colleges are also scheduled. The ISU baseball club has experienced much success in the spring seasons, to read more about the team visit the History page.
