The Iota Nu Chapter of Beta Beta Beta was founded at Iowa State University in April of 1998 led by three students Kevin Cavallin, David Wohlford, and Sarah Daniels. With a dedicated group of students leaders and facility, a club consisting of officers, advisers, and many active members was formed while awaiting national recognition. Thanks to the help and donations of different clubs, departments, and facility, the Iota Nu Chapter of Beta Beta Beta gained recognition from the national office in April of 1998 and initiated 47 new members.

In accordance with the goals of the society, the Iota Nu Chapter seeks to encourage excellence in research and scholarship. It is dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending the boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Students with majors in Ecology, Biochemistry, Biology, Biophysics, Botany, Entomology, Genetics, Microbiology, and Zoology are welcome to apply for Membership.
