Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society is a society for students, particularly for undergraduates. It seeks to encourage scholarly achievement in this field by reserving its regular membership for those who achieve superior academic excellence and who indicate special aptitude for and major interest in the life sciences. It desires to cultivate intellectual interest in the natural sciences and to promote a better appreciation of the value of biological study and thus welcomes into associate membership all students who are interested in the biological sciences. Beta Beta Beta was founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City University by Dr. Frank G. Brooks and a group of his students. Since its founding, more than 164,000 persons have been accepted into life time membership, and more than 406 chapters have been established on university and college campuses throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Through national and district conventions, Beta Beta Beta offer its members the opportunity to report their research, to hear from outstanding graduate investigators, and for students and faculty from all over the country to meet and discuss scientific issues. District conventions are held every year and a national convention every other year. Awards are given for outstanding individual and chapter accomplishment Beta Beta Beta firmly believes in the importance of sharing research with others. In order to promote that goal, and assist students in learning how to complete the publication process, the society offers its members the unique opportunity to publish their undergraduate work in the pages of its journal, BIOS. All manuscripts undergo the standard scientific procedure of review, editorial acceptance or rejection, and technical editing. The journal is indexed by several abstracting services and is among the collection of libraries worldwide. |
