  3. Cricket club membership fee: $10 per player per year. (A person paying $10 as club membership fees will be exempted from paying $4 for this tournament and will be able to play in the future tournaments free of charge or at a reduced rate. He will also be eligible to go on summer trips to play other teams around the state.)

  4. There can be more than one team per department.

  5. Team shall be formed by the cricket club committee members so that a single team is neither too strong nor too weak.

  6. At present there are 14 teams and they will be divided into 4 groups.  Teams in a group will be chosen by lots in the presence of a non-committee student.

  7. Teams in a group will play against each other. The top team will qualify for the semi-finals. If there is tie in a group for the top spot based on the points scored, then the net run-rate will be used to choose the top team.

  8. After the group matches, the 4 semi-finalists will be ranked based on their net run-rate from the pool matches. If this criteria is unable to separate the teams into 4 positions then the teams with equal points will be separated by lots.

  9. There will be no 'tie' in the tournament. If there is a tie then the winner will be decided on the following criteria. In the following order: a) number of wickets remaining, b) number of overs faced to score the runs. If these 2 criteria's does not yield a result then the winner will be decided by the flip of a coin. (ICC rule)

    RULES OF THE GAME

  1. Umpires will be chosen from non-playing teams. One of them will be a committee member.

  2. Umpire's decision will be final and binding.

  3. There are no runs for byes and leg-byes.

  4. No LBW.

  5. Run-outs are possible.

  6. One run is awarded for no-ball and wides.

  7. No-ball :full toss balls above waist height, bouncers above shoulder height and over-stepping the popping crease. Bouncers are not allowed to prevent injury.

  8. The last person in the team will not be allowed to bat if everyone else is OUT. (Last man batting "NOT" allowed)

  9. Over-throw runs are counted.

  10. If the ball hits the roof or any other elevated object before reaching the ground then the batsman cannot be ruled out even if the ball is caught without bouncing on the ground.

  11. If a batsman's shot reaches the off-side curtain before hitting the ground then it is 6 runs and if it hits the ground then it is 4 runs.

  12. If a batsman's shot reaches the leg-side curtain before hitting the ground then it is 4 runs and if it hits the ground then it is 2 runs. (RULE 11 & 12 will be valid for both right-handed and left-handed batsmen.)

  13. For shots straight down the field, if the ball reaches the curtains without hitting the ground then it is 6 runs and if it hits the ground then it is 4 runs.

  14. The batsman hitting the ball above the curtains will not get any runs for the shot either on the leg side or on the off side. If a shot straight down hits the yellow portion on the upper running track or above it, then the batsman will be given OUT. The batsman will be ruled OUT even if the ball hits the roof of the rec center and then reaches the athletic track or hits above the yellow portion. If the ball bowled is a NO-BALL then only he is NOT-OUT. (This rule is to discourage shots which might injure people running on the athletic track or playing outside the turf area and has been specified by the rec center official.) If the ball goes directly above the yellow portion of the running track (behind the wicket) then the batsman will be ruled OUT.

  15. There will be 12 overs per side. A bowler can bowl a maximum of 3 overs.

  16. The winning team will be awarded 3 points for victory and the losing team will get 0 points. If a game is abandoned no points will be awarded to either teams.

  17. All scores will be noted and posted on this website.

  18. If a bowler is found to throw (chuck) the bowl then he will be warned and the bowl will be ruled as a no-ball. On the second instance the bowler will not be allowed to continue to bowl and the captain will have to replace him. The umpire will have supreme authority over this decision and will not be argued against.

    OTHER RULES

  1. The game will be played SOUTH to NORTH. (Batsman bats at the 'south' end and the bowler bowls from the 'north' end.

  2. The balls used will be tennis balls taped with an electrical-insulation tape.

  3. Each team will be given only 45 minutes to complete their quota of 12 overs. Excessive wastage of time if noticed by the umpire will result in docking of overs.

  4. Time of play will be assigned to all the teams. If 7 out of 10 players of the team do not reach the rec center turf area within 5 minutes of the specified time, then the opposing team will get a 'walk-over'. If the opposing team does not have 7 players in the field then the match will abandoned and no points will be awarded to both the teams. This rule is into effect due to the time constraints we have regarding the availability of the center turf area.

  5. Teams should reach 10 minutes before the start of their game so that the following games can start at the designated time. If the captain of the team isn't present 10 minutes before start of play then one of the players will be called for the toss.

  6. All these decisions will be made by the umpire.
