Possible events for the future:

  • Talks by ISU professors on their research interests/fields of specialization
  • Meetings with visiting lecturers
  • "Book club" - ideas tossed about have been The Creature from Jekyll Island, Freakonomics, and classic texts from the likes of Smith, Ricardo, Marx, etc.
  • Discussions about hot economic topics

  • Trip to Kansas City to visit the Federal Reserve, speak with Fed economics, listen to jazz, and eat lots of BBQ.
  • Participated in the Economic Dept's VEISHEA display.

  • Tues, Sept 6: Opening meeting. Welcomed new students, discuss plans for the fall.
  • Tues, Sept 20: Dr Joydeep Bhattacharya gave a talk on life as an economist in academia.
  • Tues, Oct 4: Dr Barry Falk discussed graduate school in economics.
  • Tues, Oct 18: Dr Harvey Lapan discussed his time working as an economist in the US government.
  • Tues, Nov 8: Talk by Dr Justin Tobias on causal variables.
  • Tues, Nov 29: Lecture on the role of an economist in the private sector by a member of the board of trustees of a financial company.
  • December: End-of-semester party involving Chinese food and gifts.
