Hapkido is a self defense oriented martial art that originated in Korea. It involves the redirection of your opponent's momentum, joint locks, and break falls. It's a good choice for those who want to learn effective self defense techniques as well as those who want to find a great workout. To see the Hapkido in action, check out the Photo section. Yes. New members are welcome to attend several practices to try out the club. Wear comfortable workout clothes. A long sleeved T-shirt and sweatpants are ideal.
Practices are in Room E 202 of the Forker Building on the Iowa State University campus.
Membership dues are $80 a semester, or $70 per club if you are in more than one of Master Pak's martial arts clubs. A practice uniform (dobok) cost about $40 but this is a one-time expense. If you are taking the Hapkido class through ISU, Master Pak will generally let you come to club practices without having to pay dues.
It usually takes around 3 to 4 years to get a black belt with good dedication. Each individual moves at their own pace. It takes longer without frequent attendance.
Feel free to contact the Hapkdido Club President if you have more questions. E-mail addresses can be found here.
