1. International Student Council Upcoming Events

   

The International Student Council plans and organizes the following events for all ISU international students. Most of the events are free to all ISU students. Two events are fund raisers for international student associations - as noted below

  1. Fall and Spring Welcome Picnic on Central Campus in front of the Sloss House
           
    Fall:  Pizza, snacks, beverages games (Twister, cricket, soccer, volleyball)
           
    Spring: Ice skating at Ames Ice Arena with skating lessons and lunch
  2. International Week - held the first week in November with different events each day
           
    a. First Friday in November starts I-Week at ISU with
                   
    Opening Ceremony with international food, speaker, international performances, fashion show of
                   
    traditional clothing from around the world.
           
    b. First Saturday
                   
    Sports tournaments in Lied's Recreation Center
                           
    Badminton, volley ball, soccer, cricket
           
    c. First Sunday
                   
    International Appetizer and Dessert fair - participating international student associations
                   
    appetizers and deserts typical of their countries. This is a fund raiser for the participating
                   
    associations.
           
    d. Monday through Thursday features the following events - the order varies
                   
    Internationally known speaker or entertainer, Cultural Displays, World Religion and Prayer Night,
                   
    Dating and Marriage Customs from Around the World (with panel discussions), Children's Event at Ames
                   
    Public Library or SUV, international movie night (in cooperation with Student Union Board).
                   
    Photography contest
           
    e. Second Friday in November
                   
    Multicultural Ball with international food and international music and dance instruction is the Closing Ceremony and final event of International Week
  3. Spring Break
           
    Trip to Chicago - organized by ISC, fee charged
  4. International Food Fair during VEISHEA - held in April with VEISHEA
           
    a. Participate in VIESHEA parade. International student associations can participate in the VEISHEA parade
            
    ISC pays the parade costs, provides flags and country signs. ISC has some traditional clothing to loan to
            
    associations as well.
           
    b. International student associations prepare food (one cold dish, one warm dish, one beverage) from their
           
    country's and sell it during this VEISHEA event. It is a major fund raiser for the associations as well as
           
    providing a scholarship for international students awarded by ISC and the General Assembly (GA). The
           
    International Food Fair features cultural displays and international dancers and music as well
  5. Summer Trip
           
    Trip to Washington D.C. - organized by ISC - fee charged

Welcome Picnic For Fall 2006

Welcome Picnic for all new international students was held on August?26th, 2006. There were many Games, Food, Fun etc. See photos.

Welcome Picnic for Spring Semester

ISC is organizing a new welcome picnic for students in Spring semester. We want you to have fun here at Iowa State.

  • The admission is free for everyone.
  • Free skates for new International students and $1.75 for returning students.
  • Free food (taco's from Es Tas) plus hot cocoa and other warm drinks
  • Schedule: Saturday, January 28, 2:00 - 4:00PM
  • Location: ISU ice-skating arena
  • Transportation: free transportation provided to and from ice arena. Meet in front of memorial union (water fountain) at 1:30PM.

International Week

International Week is the single largest event planned and executed by international students at Iowa State. It's is a week of festivities, food, entertainment, and events centered on international issues. I-Week 2005 will be from November 7, 2005 to November 13, 2005. Click here for the I-Week schedule.
