Want to become an officer?
Serving as an officer is a great way to get more involved with AFS, learn leadership and organizational skills, and strengthen your resume. Each officer is important, with specific duties charged to them. Following are brief descriptions of each position:
President
The President plays an important role in guiding the Subunit toward its goal of developing great fisheries professionals. In other words, the President plans meetings, initiates committees, and communicates with the Iowa Chapter and North Central Division. This position gives you ample opportunity to get more involved at other levels of AFS and to network with many local professionals. You must be President-elect for a year before moving into the President position.
President-elect
The President-elect is essential for helping the President complete tasks and organize activities. As the next year's President, the President-elect learns how to lead the Subunit through constant communication and collaboration with the President.
Secretary
The Secretary helps with business meetings by advertising with flyers, keeping minutes, and generating ideas for future meetings. This is a great position for people who may only have a semester or two to serve as an officer.
Treasurer
The Treasurer keeps track of AFS finances, collects dues from members, and collects payment for trips, fundraisers, and apparel. This position is also great for people who may not be around more than a year.
