Virtual Reality Trip Planning
At the meeting on Monday (01Nov), Steve Holland gave a presentation on
"Virtual Reality Trip Planning". He demonstrated how you can download free
GIS (Geographical Information Systems) data files online and use them in an
open-source program Steve wrote, called Aviascene, and drive or fly around
the landscape like in a video game. This helps show you what the terrain
actually looks like in real life, which helps you plan the best route and
identify the correct peak and other features once you get there.
You can download Steve's
presentation.
