That's right, like fur trading trappers you can swap extraneous gear for other extraneous gear and thus experience a barder cultural existence. Money may be used as exchange, although it's not as much fun. The swap is Monday night from 7pm-9pm in the Pioneer room of the Memorial Union (upstairs). This is a cooperative project by the climbing club, ski-clup, local businesses and others. The UNI Climbing Competition is this weekend. Monday night was pretty much the last night to get signed up to compete so if you are going you should know who you are. The group will be leaving Friday night, a little latter than was previously thought due to people's working schedules. Of course, if you want to go strictly for the festivities you are welcome to attend, as many people choose not to climb competitively, although you might drive seperately. Good luck to our challengers. Let's all root for the team's big win! As we've mentioned before, we've decided not to take a spring break Mountaineering trip for lack of necessairy leaders. However, we are encouraging those interested to sign up for the Outdoor Rec Mountaineering/Ice Climbing trip to Colorado. The cost $130 which includes food for the week. TRIPS 3/8/03: Ice Climbing day trip to Brickyards. 3/9/03: We'll either lead a gym trip of some sort, (i.e. IBYX) or take a group of people to the Nipigone ice festival. SEMINAR Jerry Rupert, the Outdoor Rec director, gave a very interesting seminar on Avalanche Transponders. Covered were the Grid Search Technique and also prevention and preparation. At the end the group was allowed to try and find a hidden transponder in a Gilman lecture hall. Based on my own incompetence with the little gizmos I would encourage everyone in the club, but especially those heading to the mountains this Spring to become more proficient with the devices. Thanks for the seminar Jerry. OTHER STUFf Meetings: Mondays 8:00 pm in 1810 Gilman. Club Climb: Sundays and Wednesdays from 10:30 pm till Midnight. Web site: www.isumcc.com Dues: $20 for the semester See ya'll at the Gear
