To: mountaineers@iastate.edu From: Subject: isumcc minutes for 3/10/03 Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2003 00:50:36 -0600 (CST) ISUMCC minutes for 3/10/03 Hey everybody, Monday's meeting had a low turnout. I understand it's midterm time and all, but it's a pity because we had a great seminar which I'll get to in a minute. After break we will be having trip leadership auxiliarly seminars (i.e. after the regular meeting) that will pertain to the certification test. There should also be opportunities to check off test requirements if you are ready. We're working on getting the t-shirts done. I think we've got the design worked out. It'll be a backside view of a climber in full glacier travel gear gazing out upon a cornfield. Might as well make light of our circumstances. I think we've got the work taken care of as well, but if someone has any artistic talent and wants to be immortalized in isumcc aesthetic history, they are welcome to come forth. Petts put the UNI climbing comp pictures up on the web site so check out the photographic immortalization. So much imortalization; we're all gonna live forever! TRIPS Spring Break- Hope you all know what you're doing by now. Where ever you go remeber to wear your helmet and bring back pictures. It's about protecting the memories: those in your nogin and on your film. 4/7- We're going to try to take some sort of trip, although where and what exactly remains to be seen. SEMINAR The ever modest Bora Mavis gave a fantastic seminar on alpine climbing in his homeland of Turkey, particularly his home club's trip to Mt. Ararat (5,165m) and big wall climbing done by himself and his wife Elif. Elif has made some first-female ascents and some first all-women climbs on several of these walls. Bora's presentation included a lot of excellent video footage of his travels, complete with narrative anecdotes. Thank you very much Bora. After break, Steve Smith will be giving a presentation on backcountry travel. On 3/31 Ryan Galbbraith will be providing us with a survey of Colorado fourteeners. The following week, Adam Petts will be giving his "mystery seminar" I have a feeling it'll be slide show of Petts' extensive collection of nude climbing portraits of himself. We all know there are a lot of them out there. OTHER STUFF Meetings: Monday nights 8:00 pm 1810 Gilman Club Climb: Sundays and Wednesdays from 10:30 pm to 12:00 Dues are $20 See you all after break, John Ankeny
