Oh, how the year semester both flies by and drags. On. This past week someone asked me if I'm usually inebriated while writing these comuniques. I had to say no, that I choose not to type under the influence, and furthermore friends don't let friends drink and write term papers. However, if you feel my writing style to be a little too "relaxed" I would suggest that you come to next Monday's meeting where we will be having the elections for positions on the Climging Club's Executive Cabinet. There you may appeal to the popular voice, make use of parlimentary procedure, and launch a campaign to steal my office away from me, thus returning the minutes to the realm of sobriety and journalistic integrity. On a serious note though, the elections are probably the most important meeting of the year and attendance is vital. I know it's hard with busy schedules, but in order to reflect the spirit of the club it is necessary to have an acurate majority of club constituents. All of the positions will be up for grabs for any dues paid member. The President: oversees meetings and acts as figurehead for the club. Essentially the group's leader. Helps to have a good mug shot, but it's not manditory. Take Petts for example. (cue drum crash) Vice President: Responsible for organizing the seminars and acting for Presidente pending his or her absence. They get to line up the interesting material that makes the weekly meetings worthwhile. Treasurer: Some consider this position to be the heart of the club because so much rests on accureate bookeeping in relation to our budget. There's a lot of responsiblility, but it also provides for a more intimate knowledge of club practices than any other position. Money, Money, Money! Trip Coordinator: Planning climbing trips out of Iowa is sometimes tough, but we applaud those that do. This individual is responsible for planning trips and van reservations. Sports Club Council Rep.: We have to go send deligates to SCC meetings and consequently this individual gets to represent us in the official proceeding. It's like congress for climbers and hockey players. Secretary: Here is where the real power lies; whoever controls the information. This poor soul has to slave over the minutes every single week to keep people informed of going's on as well as make fliers and other club related documents. I've clearly had way too much fun with the job. The above positions are open to any one who has paid dues. It's great experience, quite fun, and it looks great on a resume'. Also we're going to have free food, presumably pizza, for whoever shows up. TRIPS April 25: we've got two vans and we're headed to either Miss. Palisades, or Devil's lake. I think. SEMINAR: Monday's seminar was presented to us by one John Richards, an Iowa City climber and friend of Brian Block. I appologize if I got his last name wrong. John is an experienced climber of many seasons who has climbed peaks throughout Europe as well as across our continent including time spent on big walls in Yosemite. The slide show was accompanied by a modestly understated narrative and amusing anecdotes. It was a peasure to have him in our company. Thank you John. Next week is Steve Smith and Adam Pett's Mystery Seminar. If I could write those last two words in an ominous squiggly font I would, that's how mysterious it is. The week after that we'll be BBQing at le Brookside.
