To: mountaineers@iastate.edu From: Eric Lesch Subject: ISUMCC Minutes 3/29/04 Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2004 01:15:54 -0600 (CST) Hey all you people, remember me! I thought I would reinstitute an aspect that has long been a tradition with the climbing club, weekly minutes! *if you already know what the club has been up to lately just skip the next three paragraphs! Lets see, I'll just give a quick recap of the major things that have happened with the club this semester, just in case you haven't heard about them yet. Ok, first off, about a month ago some of the club people went to an ice climbing competition at UNI. Apparently all the guys who went down there were studs as Shawn(Pinto), Adam, Seamus, and Matt Wills swept the comp, taking 1st-4th in that order. A week later we sent a large group down to UNI for the annual climbing comp. Again we did well, with Seamus and Adam taking second and third respectively in mens advanced, and Jake Dove taking first in mens beginner. For spring break we took a club trip to Moab/Red Rocks. Andrea says of the trip "Moab was my most favorite place to climb ever, but I miss Hawaii" So there you have it. Another trip also went to Colorado to the San Juan Mountains/Ouray. On that trip the mountaineering wasn't so great, but the sledding was spectacular. Most recently we invited Stephen Koch, Mountaineer-Snowboarder extroirdinaire, to give a presentation just last thursday. It was a sweet show with lots of pictures. Ok, that should bring everyone up to speed. Hopefully some of the pictures from some of the events will find their way into the website in the near future. Now for your regulary scheduled minutes. Special Allocations Meeting!!! This Wed. at 7PM Seamus will be defending our special allocations request from GSB. We will be asking for approx. $6000 for a complete ice climbing setup. For anyone who can make it, the meeting will be help in the Campanile Room in the MU. A little support from our members will go a long way here, everyone is invited to come and support our president. New Exec. Position- next week we will be holding a vote for the first ever "enforcer", or gear person. Main responsibilities of this position will be gear checkout/return and inventory. Trips: Its true, outdoor season is apon us once again! Blue Mounds, MN- This weekend Apr. 2-4 If you want to come there is still space available. $20 This is an excellent opportunity for those working on becoming leadership certified. *Keep posted for future trips! Seminars: This weeks seminar was given by Brendan and covered Leave-No-Trace policies for camping and climbing. Brendan exclaims "pee on the rocks", we all have to do our part to help conserve wilderness. Next weeks seminar will be on training for climbing, given by longtime club member Matt Wills. Thats all I got, climb hard everyone and go outside. Eric Lesch *for the last two meetings exec has stayed after to check off people for leadership certification. We will probably keep doing this for a little, but if you want to get certified, these next meetings would be good to come to.
