To: mountaineers@iastate.edu From: "Brandon Roth" Subject: Climbing Club Meeting Minutes - 9 Oct 06 Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2006 12:57:14 -0500 (CDT) Mountaineers- Well the meeting on Monday night was awesome. Former and somewhat current club member Jen Taylor spent this past summer as a climbing bum in Yosemite and came to tell us about her experiences, and teach us a little bit about what aid climbing is all about. If you have any questions about big wall and aid climbing Jen is the girl to ask (taylorjl@iastate.edu). Also at the meeting we discussed: 1) A climbing trip this weekend to Wild Iowa led by Laura (lboz@iastate.edu) if you want to attend. The plan is to leave a little after six on Friday night and then climb! 2) Another climbing trip the weekend of the 21 and 22 to Taylor Falls led by Matt (mattschw@iastate.edu). The focus of this trip is on more advanced things like placing protection and setting anchors so this is something not to miss! If interested get ahold of Matt. 3) New benifit to club members! Backcountry.com is giving club members between a 10 and 20 percent discount on everything! Club members should contact Ryan Mcnair (mcnairr@iastate.edu) for info on how to get the discount. This deal includes everything, not just climbing gear! We also have lots of stickers from them and their other affiliated companies as well so if you are in need of stickers we got the hookup. 4) At club climbing time this Sunday former club member Brian Block will be doing a shoe demo. Brian is a rep for Five-Ten and Montrail and is going to bring tons of shoes for everyone to try on, climb in, see what fits and works, ect. This is an amazing opportunity for anyone who is still in search of their 'perfect shoe' to try and find it. And who knows, maybe Jax will do a something extra special if you find the shoes you like and want to purchase them. Well hope you guys all have a great week, and next weeks meeting - anchors! -Brandon
