Departure: Saturday 22nd morning at 7 am at the Southwest Corner of State Gym Return: Sunday 23rd at 4 pm Deposit: $20.00 (needed by Wednesday the 19th) Deposit Drop off: Pearson Hall, Room 0145 Computer Science Consulting Room Wednesday the 19th from 11-12 noon to Brandon (gear manager). If you are unable to drop the deposit off please contact Brandon at (bjroth@iastate.edu) to make arrangements. ISU Mountaineering and Climbing Club will be heading to Devil's Lake this weekend, the cost is minimal $40-$50 (gas, camp equipment, and food). The first club trip non-members don't have to pay club dues, but after that club dues are required. You don't have to be an expert to join us. We will teach you all the basics and more. If you are interested in going on this trip, please contact Adam Schilling (president) by 2:00 pm tomorrow (Tuesday the 18th). Knot Tying This week at our club meeting, Brandon taught us basic knot tying important for a successful climbing trip: Bite (loop in the end of the rope) Bends (Follow Throughs) Figure 8s the most important knot of them all (this is what you use in tying yourself to your harnesses). Clove Hitch (for anchor setup) Girth Hitch Slip Knot Next Week's Meeting Monday, September 24 at 8 pm at Lied Rec. Rock 1 Workshop For those who would like to learn how belay, the club will be taking the Rock 1 class at Lied Rec. Registration is required, because spots are limited (15). There is a fee of $5.00 for the belay certification card. If you would like to register, please contact Brandon (bjroth@iastate.edu) or Adam (schill06@iastate.edu) as soon as possible. Thanksgiving Trip to Red River Gorge, KY or Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, AK Departure: Friday, November 16th between 5-7 pm Return: Wednesday, November 21st between 9-11 am The club will be going on a Thanksgiving trip and the plans are for us to head to Red River Gorge, Kentucky. This trip will roughly take 14-16 hours one way and the cost will be around $120.00. The clubs backup plan is to go to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, Arkansas. This trip will take 8-9 hours and the cost would be around $70-$80. Signup will be taken at a later meeting. Thinking about joining the club or already a member, dues are the same as always $25.00 for a semester and $45.00 for a year. Checks can be made out to ISU MCC. Please bring it to one of our club meetings as soon as possible. Club climbing time at Lied is Sunday nights from 7-9 pm. Wall-Nut Creek Wednesday, September 19th 7:00 - 9:00 pm Come climb with the club this Wednesday at Wall-Nut Creek from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Paid Club members get in for $3.00! Directions from the ISU Campus: Travel East on Lincoln Way, turn right at the intersection of Elwood Drive and Lincoln Way, travel south on Elwood Drive/530 Ave for roughly 6 miles (road will turn into gravel), turn right at Wall-Nut Creek (it is an old barn with a green light on it, a white house sits adjacent to it). If you hit pavement (east and west E57) again, you've gone too far. BBQ Thursday, September 20th 6:00 - 7:00 Bob's Cell 207-752-4653 If you like meeting new people, eating food, and slack lining, join the club at the weekly BBQ at Brookside Park (weather permitting). Bring your meat and drink and Bob will bring condiments and charcoal. New people and friends welcome! You don't have to be a club member to join us for grilling! Climbing Competitions If you would like to show off your skill or would just like to have some fun. Join the Climbing Club at one of the many competitions that are going to go to later this semester.
