Tonight we learned the fastinating world of anchors. Some important acronyms for top rope anchors for climbing are: E.R.N.E.S.T Equalized: Not all the weight is on one Redundant: Multiple anchors (a min of two, but it is best to have three) No Extension: If an anchor breaks or malfunctions, you won't fall or fall far :) Solid (Strong and Stable): The proper ropes and anchors are used Timely: I won't take long to setup L.E.A.D.S.T.E.R Limited: If an anchor breaks, you won't fall Extension: If an anchor breaks, you won't fall far Angle: Less than 60 degrees on your anchors. The more degrees the more force Direction: Have the top anchor facing the same direction as you are climbing Strong: The rope can hold your weight Timely: Setting your anchor won't take long Equalized: Not all the weight is on one Redundant: Multiple anchors (a min of two, but it is best to have three) We also learned the Triangle of Death. It is infamous for being extremely weak when compared to other anchors by virtue of the way the forces of the load are magnified on the fixed anchors. For more information check out wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_death_triangle Member dues are due. Semester dues are $25.00 and $45.00 for a year. Checks can be made out to ISU MCC. Please bring it to one of our club meetings as soon as possible. Club climbing time at Lied is Sunday nights from 7-9 pm. Wall-Nut Creek Wednesday, October 3 7:00 - 9:00 pm Come climb with the club this Wednesday at Wall-Nut Creek from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Paid Club members get in for $3.00! If you hit pavement (east and west E57) again, you've gone too far.
