Student Chapter Constitution
SECTION I: Purpose of the Organization
The purpose of this student organization shall be to:
- Encourage the professional and social development of members in
the Industrial Education & Technology Department at Iowa State
University.
- Foster leadership by providing opportunities to serve in
responsible positions.
- Provide for the infusion of knowledge from sources beyond
college or university settings such as field trips, seminars and
guest speakers.
- Provide members and students at Iowa State University with
opportunities for the exchange of ideas, experience and friendship
among peers.
SECTION II: Officers
The office of the President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer
shall be elected officers. All positions are filled for one-year terms.
No individual shall hold more than one elected office in the
organization at the same time while at Iowa State University, also the
President-Elect is expected to become the following years President.
SECTION III: Membership Requirements
Regular membership shall be open to all undergraduate and graduate
students who pays the annual dues and are majoring or minoring in
Industrial Education & Technology.
Supporting membership shall be open to individuals (including
faculty, staff and industrial personnel) interested in promoting the
purpose of the organization.
SECTION IV: Officers’ qualifications and functions
The office of the President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer
shall be elected officers. All positions are filled for one-year terms.
No individual shall hold more than one elected office in the
organization at the same time while at Iowa State University.
President Responsibilities:
The President shall:
Preside at all regular meetings.
Preside at all Executive Committee meetings.
Act as an ex-officio member of all committees with power to vote in case
of ties.
Prepare an agenda listing all items of business to be brought before a
regular meeting of the Organization and distribute it to regular members
at least three days before the meeting.
Act as the executive officer of the organization with authority to
appoint committees and chairmen.
Promote the work of the organization in every possible way and serve as
the official representative of the association.
President-Elect Responsibilities:
The President-Elect shall:
Serve as a member of the Executive Committee.
Discharge the duties of the President in his / her absence.
Serve as chairman of the Program Committee.
Cooperate with the President in every possible way to promote the
purpose of the organization.
Be the following years President.
Secretary Responsibilities:
The Secretary shall:
Serve as a member of the Executive Committee.
Keep accurate records of all business sessions of the organization.
Keep accurate records of all meetings of the Executive Committee of the
organization.
Treasurer Responsibilities:
The Treasurer shall:
Serve as a member of the Executive Committee.
Serve as a chairman of the Membership Committee.
Receive membership dues and keep a systematic record of memberships in
the organization.
Handle all funds of the organization by collecting and receipting all
credits and paying all bills by check thru Iowa State University.
Keep accurate records of all financial transactions and prepare an
annual financial report to be presented at the last meeting of the year.
Be responsible for printing and distributing membership receipts and
cards.
ESAC Responsibilities:
The ESAC representative shall:
Serve as a member of the Executive Committee.
Preside at all regular ESAC meetings during the academic school year.
Preside College of Education meetings dealing with but not limited to
ESAC functions at Iowa State University.
Executive Committee: President-Elect, Treasurer, Sectary & ESAC
The executive committee shall:
Meet at such times and places as may be deemed necessary to the
effectively carry out the purposes of the organization. The President
may call such meetings at his / her discretion or they may be called at
the written request of the Executive committee. At least three members
constitute a quorum.
Authorize and discharge such committees as deemed necessary to conduct
the work of the organization.
Authorize the distribution of funds necessary for conducting the work of
the organization and its various committees.
Consider any proposed additions or revisions to the chapter constitution
and report them to the membership of the organization with a
recommendation for approval upon the President.
SECTION V: Provision for ratification and amendment
This constitution may be amended by the regular members of the
organization in a regular business meeting. A two-thirds vote of regular
member in attendance shall be necessary to amend or repeal any article
or section of the constitution provided that formal notice of a
constitution revision is made at least one week in advance with copies
of the proposed changes made available to all members. Amendments shall
be added to the constitution and numbered consecutively.
All amendments to this constitution by student chapters shall be
appended in the constitution before distributing copies of the
constitution to members.
SECTION VI: Provisions for Financing
This organization will be financed by dues, contributions, fund
raisers, and student activity fee allocations according to Iowa State
University.
BY-LAWS
Regular elections for the election of officers for the succeeding
year shall be conducted no later than the last month of the academic
year.
Special elections may be called by the President to fill vacancies which
will exist for less than two months may be filled in with an acting
appointment made by the President.
The President shall appoint a nominating committee of three members to
identify member who are interested and qualified candidates for the
elective officers. The names shall be submitted to the President and
distributed to the membership one week in advance of the election.
Members will be informed they may nominate additional candidate from the
floor at the regular business meeting at which the election is held.
The office of the President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer

organization at the same time while at Iowa State University.
Membership dues shall be established by the Executive committee and
approved by the regular members at the first monthly meeting of the
academic year. Dues may be established by the semester or quarter for
the membership year.
Regular meetings of the organization shall be held at least two times
each month during the academic year. A quorum for normal business of the
organization shall consist of the regular members in attendance at and
duly called meeting.
Executive members of the organization shall meet at least once a week
before or after the chapter meeting to discuss business, special
projects and get ready for upcoming events.
Executive members of each student organization shall meet at least once
a month to discuss the goals of the Industrial Education & Technology
Department at Iowa State University.
