The National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) is an agricultural marketing club and is the departmental
club for the Ag Communications curriculum. This organization consists of agri-marketing professionals in
25 chapters in six regions. More than 3,500 professionals and students are members of NAMA. Members have the opportunity to connect with other leading professionals to gain a unique perspective on the industry.
Student NAMA chapters, with more than 1,500 members from 36 chapters at leading universities and colleges, comprise an important part of NAMA's membership. The ISU group works closely with the
Iowa professional chapter and has the opportunity to attend the professional meetings and network
with its members. The student chapter also brings in members from the professional chapter to speak at meetings about their position in the industry, as well as their role within NAMA. Both of these are great
ways for members to obtain internships and full-time jobs.
Chapter activities include a trip during the fall semester to tour an agricultural companyís facilities,
attending the professional chapter meetings, participating in events within the College of Agriculture
and Greenlee School of Journalism and chapter social events. We also work with the professional
chapter to have a mentoring day, where members are given the opportunity to spend a day
"job shadowing" a professional in a field they are interested in.
Another aspect of NAMA is marketing team. This is a group of approximately 15 members from the
chapter whomeet once a week and develop a marketing plan for an ag based product from start to
finish. In April, this plan is presented at the National NAMA Convention, which is held in a different
city each year. Five members from the
team present the plan to a panel of judges. Members of marketing
team can receive up to three credits in the spring semester.
