Graduate Fellowships
The Phi Kappa Phi Foundation was
incorporated in 1969 to promote academic excellence and achievement
by means of scholarships and fellowships. To support first-year
graduate work, the Society annually offers sixty Fellowships (of up
to $5,000 each) and forty Awards of Excellence (of $2,000 each)
through the Foundation. The awards are offered on a competitive
basis, to graduating students who have been initiated into the society
and who have also been nominated by their chapters. Each chapter is
entitled to submit one nomination. Every nominee is awarded a lifetime
membership in Phi Kappa Phi valued at $310.
Members of Phi Kappa Phi who will be enrolled in graduate or professional
school for the first time in Fall 2009 are encouraged to apply for
a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship.
Brochures and applications are available on-line at http://www.phikappaphi.org/Web/Scholarships/graduatefellowship.html
Completed applications must be returned by February 1,
2009.
Since competition for these prestigious awards is keen, both the
qualifications of the applicants and the thoroughness and care with
which the application is prepared become important. The letters of
reference are a major consideration in terms of qualification of the
writer and what is said about the applicant. Members of the Chapter's
Scholarship Committee are available to work with applicants to assure
the best submission possible.
Selection of Nominee
The ISU Chapter holds its own scholarship competition to select its
nominee for the national Fellowship Competition. Applications are
made using the same forms and content required for the national competition.
Individuals selected at the local level receive a minimum $500 award. The top applicant becomes the Chapter's nominee
for the national competition.
Other Awards
The Society's scholarships and awards program also includes the
Phi Kappa Phi National Scholar Award, the Phi Kappa Phi National Artist
Award, five regional Phi Kappa Phi Scholar and Phi Kappa Phi Artist
awards.
