About the ISU Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon
Pi Mu Epsilon is the national mathematics honorary society. The purpose of the society is the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among students and staff. The first chapter was founded at Syracuse University in 1914; the Iowa Alpha Chapter was formed here at Iowa State in 1923.
ISU students may be invited in the spring to join the local chapter. Members are students who have completed at least two years of college-level mathematics with honor (at least 3.33 GPA) and have maintained an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
The local chapter sponsors regular meetings during the academic year. Non-members are welcome at the meetings, which typically occur every third Sunday at 5:00 pm in 232 Carver. Meetings usually include a mathematics talk. Afterwards, people get together over pizza to talk about mathematics and life.
