2007 Rockwell Collins Winter Rollout

This tournament was flat out amazing. We had several players in the Open/AA division. Michael started things off by nearly defeating Bryan Crosser in their first game (losing 12-10). Bryan then took the next two after breaking Michael's spirit.

Crosser's next opponent was Russ, who took Bryan to a tie breaker. Unfortunately, Crosser just hit too many shots (and russ is just out of shape) for Powers to stay in it.

Matt fell out of AA/Open after he lost to his doubles partner.. Ouch..

**BREAKING NEWS** Casey, 10-10 in his tie breaker of A Consolations Semis, DOVE!! Unfortunately, it broke the camera.

OUr girls, Bridget and Kristi, gained some much needed tournament experience while playing in the Men's C division.

2007 UW Badgers Fall Tournament

Luke and Michael competed tough in this tournament, eventually facing eachother in the semi finals of the gold bracket. Michael took the match but then got his butt beat to a guy from Illinois. Tough Luck...

Other participants from ISU were Russ, Matt, and Missy, all of whom gave very disappointing performances..

2007 Dave Kinnman Memorial Classic

The Memorial classic gave many the opportunity to donate to the David Fights organization (an organization fighting against colectoral cancer). We all had a great time at one of the biggest tournaments in Iowa.

As per usual, Matt, Jake, and Russ all were disappointed in the Open division.

Casey and Justin won the A consolation doubles championship, AGAIN by forfeit.

Michael got 2nd in the A division, losing to Johnny from Cedar Rapids, and Luke got some sweet revenge on Gabby Shnurman when he won the A consolation bracket.

2007 Rumble in the Box

2007 Cyclone Racquet for a Cure

Our 2nd annual Cyclone RFAC event came and ended quickly (thank god!). We raised nearly $500 ($485 to be exact). Here are the results for the event:

Open - Bryan Crosser took down the main event by beating Russ in the semis and Jake in the finals. Russell beat Michael Dunlay in a tiebreaker to win the Open Consolation (though how consoling is it anyway?)

A - Luke easily defeated everybody in his path, reassuring him that he should be an all-the-time Open player.

B/C - "The Chad" beat the club newbs and out-of-towners, Russ & Alex barfield, Brent Talbert, and Will Klema

Women's - The hard hitting ISU Alum, Missy Menning, ran through everybody in her way to take down the diversified Women's division.

Mixed - Nobody really stood a chance against the best girl at the tournament and the 2nd best guy. Congrats to Gabby and Jake for taking down this heated bracket.

Men's Doubles - This division was left undecided because Jake, Matt, Luke, Michael, Casey, and Rick were too lazy to compete any more.

Thank you all for participating and a special thanks to our sponsors Ektelon, Papa John's, and West Cyde Wings. This event would not have been successful without their help. Continue to support them and they will continue to support us.

2007 Intercollegiate Nationals

Intercollegiates was again AMAZING. Except for a questionable first day, the ISU team had a strong second half showing. Here's how it broke down:

#1 Jake - Jake sucked it up for his first two matches of the tournament but then stepped it up a notch and played almost up to his potential the last few days.

#2 Matt - Matt played really well the entire tournament (except for maybe a doubles match or two). He ended up winning the #2 Blue gold medal after only losing to Baldwin Wallace in the second round.

#3 Michael - Mike had a magnificent tournamnet. He won his first two matches in the #3 singles spot and made it to the Semi Finals. He eventually lost to Alabama's #3, the team who eventually took the overall National Championship.

#4 Luke - Luke had a rough first match but then turned it around and won the rest of his matches to win the gold medal in the Red division for the #4 spot.

#5 Casey - Casey was simply outmatched in the second round of the #5 spot by a guy from CSU - Pueblo. After that tough loss (15-0, 15-4), he blew by his competition from Duke and Baldwin Wallace. He performed remarkably similar to last year by bringing home the #5 Blue gold for the second year in a row.

#6 Justin - Justin had a tough first round, drawing the #1 men's team in the country, Colorado State - Pueblo. As always, he played with a lot of effort and suprisingly, he made it to the final day without a substantial injury. Justin ended up winning the Silver in the #6 Red division.

#0 Courtney - Courtney didn't play until Saturday of this 4-day tournament and only had one match. I hear she played really well and took down a girl that signed up for A to bring home the Gold medal in the Gold bracket of the Women's A singles division! Everyone should give Courtney a big thanks for being there for all of us during this long event.

Overall, the club placed 10th in the nation among Division I schools and 11th overall (that Baldwin Wallace is carazy) in the men's standings. Here are the official standings and point distributions. It's no top 5, but we still did better than we did last year and everybody had a grand ol' time. Time to start training for next year!

2007 Ballbuster

Matty Guetzko had an amazing tournament at this years ballbuster. Matt beat Jake in the Open finals and then beat Jake and Jay in the Open/A doubles division with his brother Mark. After all the real brackets were finished, we hosted a smallball tournament where the lefty again took over and beat his brother Mark in the finals.

In the A and B division, late entrants Mike Davidson (A) and Kent Horstmann (B) took down their divisions respectively. Let it be noted that NO Iowa State made it out of the first round of A except for Rick. Luke, Justin, and Casey You guys need to step it up before Intercollegiates.

Missy took down the women's department as always, beating Keeney in the Finals. Josh, from UNI, took down the C division. Afterwards he realized that he should have been playing in the B division. Rick and Akil beat Justin and Mike Lester in the B/C Doubles finals. Last and certainly least, Family of Powers (well, really it was just Russ) won the Mixed doubles championship on a controversial non-forfeit call made by the courageous tournament director. Tough luck Courtnads.

Thanks to all of those that played. Although some people were unhappy with the results, almost everybody had a fun tournament. A special thanks to those U-Dubbers that made the drive down and to Papa John's, West Cyde Wings, and Ektelon for all of their support.

Oakmoor Invitational

After a blizzard-plagued week, the tournament went on as scheduled with many forfeits on Friday night. The competition really rolled in on Saturday though and Oakmoor showed why it is one of the most popular tournaments in Iowa. Jake, Matt, and Russ all played Open and performed OK. Luke beat Andy Briggs in A and then lost in the second round. Way to move up Luke. Casey took out Michael on his way to taking down the A consolation bracket. This was a huge step in Casey's tournament play.

Justin got to the Semi's of B and Nate and Rick played eachother in the B consolation and Nate eventually brought home the B consolation trophy. Casey and Justin found a nice home in A doubles.

Courtney and Kristi played their hearts out in the Women's B/C division, both losing to Hannah Shnurman.Shes tough.

A good tournament was had by all. Good job for all of those who competed.

Quad-Cities

It was an exciting weekend in the Quad Cities but no body played a terrible lot. Jake got screwed in his draw and played the #1 guy in the state. Luke won A consolation but is still reluctant to move on to A. Just do it foo'. Justin made it to the semi-finals of B and "broke" his foot. But even with his broken foot he and Casey were able to take down B/C consolation after Casey busting a guy's forehead open in the first round.

Nobody ever really knows how Keeney does in these things.

Sioux Falls Lewis Classic

The Sioux Falls Lewis Classic was as fun as promised. We saw some great professional racquetball with the Pro finals have Jack face off with Rocky. Jack took down the match without much objection from Rocky, he's just kind of tearing it up right now.

In the first round, our three open guys played Pro and got their asses handed to them by Roth, Hawthorne, and the legendary Rueben. Jake almost took a game from Rueben, losing 12-10. Matt and Jake took their $60 lessons and quickly moved down into the open division.

Casey, Luke, Michael, and Justin all played in the B division. Everyone except for Casey played like poo in the first round but it ended up being Luke and Mike in the consolation finals with Mike bringing it home. Casey brought home second with a nice little big trophy and decided to move his game to the A level from here on out.

The best part of the weekend was when Keeney was harassed by Thoerner and Mitch Williams and they took THIS picture. Williams looks like a total skeez.

4-Wall Brawl 2007

Matt and Jake got their hindparts bruised by some of the Midwest's best. Russ made it to the consolation division finals but just had too much quit in him. Michael came down with a nasty sickness and couldn't play most of his matches in A.

Casey and Luke both made it to the semi finals of the B division, about the same as they did last year. But I do think that the competition this year was a bit tougher than in years past. At least Jade (the 14 year old phenom) moved out of B. Unfortunately that didn't help Rick and Casey in the B/C doubles as Jade (14) and his friend Kyle (13) beat the crap out the ISU duo.

Keeney got 2nd place in the Women's division, losing to a 61-year old grandma. Kristi played pretty well for it being her first tournament. Keep improving ladies.

Rockwell Collins Winter Rollout 2006

The Rollout was a HUGE success for our team! We pretty much cleaned house in the Open divisions. Jake and Matty Open Doubles. Russ cleaned house, winning Open and a hefty paycheck and Matt won Open Consolation. Jake made it to the semi-finals of Open as well.

Dunlay won the A consolation, we all sucked it up in B again (just like at Oakmoor), Courtnads got 2nd place in the Men's C division (don't ask), and Ross took down the Novice division while beating on a 12-year old.

Oakmoor Fall Classic 2006

Nobody really did anything special in Open or A at the Oakmoor Fall Classic in 2006. Russ sandbagged and lost to an old guy in As and Jake couldn't play because of a broken ankle.

Michael Dunlay played his first REAL tournament in the B division and made it to the finals, in the end losing to Paul Van Gorp of UNI. Everyone else pretty much sucked it up in the B division.

Overall, it was a pretty piss poor start to the r-ball season..

On a brighter(ish) note, Justin and I won B/C Doubles Consolation and Missy won B/C Women's Consolation.

Intercollegiate Nationals 2006

The Iowa State Racquetball club sent a 8 individuals to Tempe, AZ to compete in the Intercollegiate Racquetball Nationals this spring. The teams included of Jake Pitzenburger, Matt Guetzko, Russ Powers, Jon Rueter, Casey Wright, Luke Harden, Dominique Lipscomb, and Courtney Keeney.

Courtney Keeney won a platinum medal in the white consolation bracket of the #1 girls division.

Casey Wright and Luke Harden both won Gold in their respective #5 and #6 divisions in the blue consolation bracket. Casey upset the #1 seed in his division from CSU-Pueblo, while Luke upset the #2 seed from Alabama, quite possibly causing 'Bama to lose the national championship for the first time in 3 years.

Jon Rueter won a platinum medal in the blue consolation bracket of the #4 division.

As a team, Iowa state finished 11th the men's standings in the nation among Division I schools, while finishing 13th in the Mens/Women's combined. This is a great accomplishment for Iowa State Racquetball as it is starting to make a name for itself nation wide. Congratulations to all those who competed!!
