Kate Shelley Bridge
The longest and tallest double track bridge in the United States and named after the famous heroin, the Kate Shelley Bridge represents the western point of the club's coverage. High Bridge is 186' high and consists of 39 deck plate girders (total of 2386' length) and the main span (a deck pin truss) shown as 300' in length (2686' total). It opened for service in 1901 and eliminated the need for the original route via Moingona and its associated helper operation needed to get trains up out of the valley.

Getting to the Bridge
To get to the bridge take U.S. 30 west until you reach the stop sign on the south side of Boone. Take a right and go north 3 miles until you reach 8th St. Make a left and go about five blocks to Marion St. and make a right. Take Marion north to 12th St. and make a left. Head west out of town. When the road branches west of town continue west. The road is now 198th St. Continue west about three miles on 198th St. The road will make a slight turn south, hang right at the intersection. Soon you will see the bridge on the left. You will pass a bridge over the Des Moines River and you get a better view. When you get the intersection go left and the road will pass under the bridge to the other side. You can photograph from either side thought the south side is much more popular.
