Dear Lyon Hall Resident:
This year, the Department of Residence has changed its contracting process for students who wish to return to the residence halls for 2003-2004.
At the beginning of the spring 2003 semester, the department publicized that it would reserve approximately 75 percent of the available space in each Richardson Court or Union Drive residence hall house for incoming first-year students. Now that enrollment and returning student projections are clearer, and as the time for returning student contracting approaches, the department has been able to assign specific percentages of available space for returning students to each of these houses.
The percentages per house vary from 6.0 percent to 59.1 percent, based on house surveys and historical data. The department anticipates that, based upon these projections, all students who wish to return to their houses for 2003-2004 will be able to do so. There is one exception. Because of learning community holds for first-year students in Friley Anthony house for women, it is possible that some students who wish to return to Anthony house may not be able to do so.
The following are the numbers and percentages of spaces that will be reserved in each Lyon Hall house:
Harwood Any Harwood house resident who wishes to return may do so, provided he or she is still enrolled in the honors program.
Rooms in all houses will be available to returning students on a first come, first served-basis during each phase of the Step Inside online room assignment process. Students who do not secure spaces in their current houses or who wish to move to other houses will be able to select rooms elsewhere in their neighborhoods or elsewhere in the system during the Step Inside process.
Residents will receive letters upon their return from Spring Break providing them with instructions for using Step Inside. New this year is an on-line contracting process. Beginning Monday, March 24 all returning residents may use Step Inside to sign an electronic room and board contract. Signing the contract will not immediately place you back in your same room. Step Inside for room selection will open on Tuesday, April 8.
