Hey all, i bet you are thinking it's about time for another newsletter.  Sorry for the delay, but the printing press was backed up from all the incoming news.  But after a little tinkering and time, i got this newsletter ready for publication.  SO with that, here you go...

The Im soccer team, i think the slammin stunnas had a rough go during the short life they had in the tournament losing 2-1 to some unmannered barbarrian team..( not intended to offend anyone..)
It was a tough fight, some of us left it all on the field. I know i did , taking a shot to the manhood. ouch, that hurt....Well, the season's over now, and have a good break, see you next year.

Next up on the schedule of overdue news is the barker ball bashers who had a great run for the gold(t-shirts cause this isn't the olympics), but fell short in a tough game.. After losign game one, the ladies were unable to make a comeback.  It was a great season, and thanks for everything ladies.  Best of luck in the future.

There isn't any news for the barker volleyball team.  All I have a memo that they got beat in the first round of the tournament.  Hey, it was fun, and thats what intramurals are all about, so good luck in the rest of your IM's.

And the biggest shock of all, the Slamin Sistas and Brothas( believe it or not, but they are not from the hood) fell short in the Superbowl of the C division and were unable to win the t-shirts.   It was a great game.  BArker started out hot as the heaters now that they turned on the heat, and kept rolling for the first half.  In the second half, barker maintained a marginal lead, until with only 30 seconds to go, the opponents scored to win the game by 3 points closing the book on the cinderella story of the barker football team and their run at the t-shirts.  Some stats for the season were that barker only allowed 24 points in the tournament and scored a whoping lot of points ( i can't add that high) The turnover ratio was in favor of barker, with averaging at least 3-4 int's a game and only giving up 1-2 on average. A quote from McCarney,
" The season was fun, and nobody should hang thier heads over it.  I mean you won more games than my D-1 collegee team will win this year.  Thanks for a fun season and have a good sememster "

-coach Mac  ( he would have been proud of us, maybe given us a chance to play for ISU)
The mens broomball team had a great run that fell short of the semi's in a tough fought battle against some bunk team that squeeked by the men.   There's always co-rec broomball, so don't think it's over already.

The other men's team. the slamin icers made a circus out of their foe.  The final score was 8-0.  There was a lot of danwood on the ice,  and no action for him.  It's a good thing he's growing that beard, cause with a cutoff shirt and shorts, he's gotta be the coldest elf here in Ames , let alone anywhere else.  HEHEHE
The icers have a few weeks off, but hope to maintain their effective teamwork and conger up some wins.

This is all for now, but in the near future(tomorrow, i believe) there will be news of the jungle ice juicers.  They have been tearing it up in the broomball world this season and are playing for the championship tonight at 11:10.  You should be there if you want to see some ladies on the ice!(think about that one for a while) :)
After a close double overtime, sudden death shootout  win, the ladies came back and won 3-0 in the semi's.  Best of luck ladies, i know you will do well.  Go out there and do your stuff.  We'll cheer you on the entire way..ohhhweee!!

Thanks for understanding my dilema with putting out this newsletter for a long time.  It's really messy here at the office, and i am a slacker i guess.   Until next time ...Keep your stick on the ice.

The IM chairs of barker

Friday, October 3, 2003

Hello ladies and gents,

Today is a fabulous day outside.  I think it's the warmest day this week..whoo hoo. and since it's such a good day for Im's even though there aren't any today,  i thought i've give  my week, 2 weeks review.  I've been slacking a bit, but am trying to get on top of things now.

In the 2nd game of the preliminary rounds , the barker babes made a great run for their money(just remember that there is no entry fee to play...hehe)!  They worked well together and in the end fell a little short, but not as short as our IM chair...(i like ya short, don't get mad...get glad...hehe)

Then for the 3rd prelim game, the women of barker were so intimidating that the opponents didn't show.  They thought the $10.00 forfeit fine was well worth the reputation being saved cause the barker ball bashers are great at volleyball...  They have their first tourny game this sunday at 10:15 so come cheer them on.  They love fans..guys, i think they said they all got spandex for the tourny, so come check them out...  ;)

THe sweet baker football team  made history with the steller deensive performance shown in their first and last prelim game by pulling at least 4 intercceptions and holding the opponents to just 3 tds and 1 2 pt conversion.  ON the offensive half, the barker o put up a steller 20 points to the opponents 18.  If the QB could have hit cody on the fade pattern for the 2 point conversions there would have been a much bigger defeat margin.  Well the barker team plays thursday the 9th at 4:30 on field 31 so if you want a good time, come watch us and give us soem suport, we like support.

The slamin sis and bros got smoked by some team that shouldn't have stood up against barker, but a few mistakes, (interceptions) and the flood gates opened up for the opponents to take a outstanding victory over the barker team.  They start tourny play in the near future, and should stand a very good chance to go the distance.

Up next , is the 6 packing yuppies who have been dominating their last few pre lim games are now into the tournament stage.  Barker put up a huge game pulling off the win after 3 tough matches.  The first went 25-21 barker, then barker lost the second 25-20 and came back to win the 3rd 15-11.  They play next monday and it should be a good game so come cheer them on. We'd like to take a moment to thank those who came and watched us play(betsy, sarah, and megan)..if i forgot someone else, i'm sorry.

Now the big upset  comes with the co-rec soccer team.  A hopeful team (the barker team) got trounced by a A class team, who just pulled away with a 8-1 victory.  It's all fun and games so there are no hard feelings, but if barker had a few of their other teammates, it might have been a different story.  Well wish them luck sunday at 4:45 when they take the field again.

Thanks for the interest in the IM's and remember "keep your stick on the ice"

Those signedup for broomball owe $2.00 to me before the first game.

Have a good one

Good morning everybody.  This is a weekly newsletter that we try to send out to let everybody know how the Im sports teams are doing.  Just to warn you, i'm not very grammer orientated, so don't condemn me for it....:)

Last sunday the barker women had a tough run against the mighty volleyball team from somewhere on campus.  They might have been bigger,(or not , i dont' remember) but we were deffinately more prepared.. Barker came out strong winning the first game 25-18 thanks to a steller performance from the entire team.  Unfortunately the ball bashers came up short in game 2 losing 25-19ish.  It was a good attempt that fell short, but it's all for the fun of it and these are just preliminary games. The last match (rally scoring to 15) was a doozy, barker fought hard, but in the end fell short losing 15-10.  Look out for the ball bashers in the next week cause they've got some skill.  A few games to preactice together and they will be a powerhouse in their tournament bracket.

Unfortunately due to rain, the barker men were unable to perform.  The rain was too much and the game was cancelled.  The outlook on the team is definately going to be better than last year's guy's team(primaily cause we didn't have one...hehe) so come on out to our next game and support us because we all like to be supported ;)

Sunday was a great day for football, not as good as saturday was for Iowa, but still decent.
The slammin brothas and sistas were just to intimidating for the opposing team, that they didn't show up. THe slamin sista's and brotas won by forfeit.  But it gets much better now, they played a B-C division team for fun, and came out on top 20-16.  Lets note a steller performance by a few individuals who deserve a pat on the back for their performance:
first theres sticky hands danwood who got a hold of every flag within a 10 mile radius and was able to snatch it to help the slamin defense ward off the other team.  He also scored a touchdown after receiving a pass from katie.
then theres katie who had an interception, a touchdown pass and a touchdown catch.  Look out for her in future games , the fireworks will fly.
Also, alicia, root root for her....hehe had a few great catches for 2 key first downs.  She has moves like seneca.  After one run she picked up the guys jock and threw it in his face and said i'll be back....(actually this is just flag football, i don't think people wear jocks for this, but it would have been really funny)
Overall, the team put up a good performance. They play next sunday and are looking forward to having 2 new players who will help the team tremendously with their football abilities and good wits..cody and kelsi.

finally the last story nearly straight off the press, or out of my mind is the women's volleyball team had another run last night.  After dominating for the first half, the opponents made a sneaky comeback to win 25-20. Then the second game , the cookie was crumbling on barker.  The women couldn't get many to fall and the other team came away with a 25-18 win.  It's ok barker ladies, keep your heads up and you will do better next time. IT was a valliant effort by the entire team.

That is all for the weekly sports rap by slamin skinner and sarah the infamous intramural chairs from barker.  Hope you enjoyed it, i could stay here all day and write a bunch of nonsence, but kevin is hungry for some chicken nuggets and wants to go eat so until next week, keep your stick on the ice....(if you know where that saying is from, tell me and i might give the first person a treat:)

thats a wrap!
