Sigma Alpha

 

Sigma Alpha was started in 1977 at Ohio State University.  The founders wanted a professional agricultural sorority.  Sigma Alpha is a professional sorority organized to foster the study of agriculture among women by promoting scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship.  In 1978, Sigma Alpha became an officially recognized student organization.  In 1980, a national board was organized.  Iowa State University was the fourth chapter in 1986 as the Delta Chapter.

 

The Objective of Sigma Alpha

 

The objective of this sorority shall be to promote its members in all facets of agriculture and to strengthen the bonds of friendship among them.  It is the purpose of the members to strive for achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service, and to further the development of excellence in women pursuing careers in agriculture. 

 

Sigma Alpha Facts

 

The official colors of Sigma Alpha are emerald and maize.

The Sigma Alpha sorority flower is the yellow chrysanthemum.

The Sigma Alpha jewel is the emerald.

The Sigma Alpha mascot is the baby bull. 

Sigma Alpha is to be conducted as a professional agricultural sorority.
