About 21.6 million pounds of antibiotics are sold each year for animal use to aid in feed efficiency, growth promotion, and fighting infections. The large quantity of veterinary antibiotics used each year are predominantly excreted as parent compounds. The manure containing these antibiotics is applied to fields to enhance for growing crops. One commonly used antibiotic in animal production is the compound erythromycin. My research project focuses on the environmental fate (leeching, runoff, absorption, degradation, photolysis, and sequestration) through assessing bioconcentration and bioaccumulation in the aquatic organism, Lumbriculus variegatus and effects of the antibiotic erythromycin in aquatic and terrestrial environments. A biomimetic device is also being evaluated with this project to develop a useful analytical tool for the quantification of BCF's and BAF's in the laboratory.

I am a PhD student, working with Prof. Anumantha G Kanthasamy and we do research in neurotoxicology. My research revolves around the relationship between metal toxicology and Parkinson's disease. We are also interested in nanotoxicology and Parkinson's disease. I love good literature, am fascinated by politics and believe that Service is the best job in the world.
