Members of the
ISU Taekwondo Club practice Olympic-style Taekwondo. The ISU Taekwondo
Club is divided into three different sections for beginner,
intermediate, and advanced students. Each class is geared to the
ability level of its members. People with previous martial arts
experience, whether in a different art or a different style of
Taekwondo, are welcome. Grand Master Pak and advanced members are
willing to work with people to quickly bring them up to speed.
BEGINNER’S CLASS
The beginners’ class is for students with no (or very little)
experience in Olympic-style Taekwondo. Students who have experience in
other martial arts benefit from this class too because they can learn
about the fundamentals of the Pak family Taekwondo style. Because the
ISU Taekwondo Club has a skilled instructor and teaching assistants,
new students can be worked in at any time; so even if you
decide to join after the first class you don't have to play catch-up.
INTERMEDIATE
CLASS
The intermediate class is for students who are yellow, orange, green,
and blue belt ranks. Students practice techniques required for their
current belt ranks, learn sparring techniques, and focus on refining
basic techniques. Upper rank students also participate in this class to
provide demonstrations and to help yellow through blue belts.
ADVANCED
CLASS
The advanced class is geared for students who are blue, brown, and red
belt ranks, as well as all ranks of black belt. Students practice
advanced techniques as well as sparring, speed drills, and basic
techniques. For several months of the year, the ISU Collegiate
Nationals Team trains in this class.
The ISU Taekwondo Club has an open door policy – anyone can
stop in to either watch or participate in a couple of classes. If
you decide that taekwondo is for you, joining is easy; you simply keep
coming.
Club dues are collected three times per year at the beginning of each
ISU semester. Club dues are $80 per semester – if you are a
member of Hapkido or Judo then dues are $70. This cost is roughly equal
about one dollar per class, which is an outstanding bargin.
If you are martial artist from another club and would like to join,
stop by and talk to Grand Master Pak about your rank in your previous
club. Grand Master Pak will work with you to find out the
differences in your taekwondo training and will enter you into the club
at an appropriate level.
