ISU closes season on winning note
The 2007-2008 season for the Iowa State University Cyclone Women’s Hockey Club ended with two exciting wins March 1-2 at the ISU/Ames Ice Arena. Cheered on by their largest crowd of fans this season, the Cyclones won 5 to 4 on Saturday night--scoring the winning goal in the final minute of the game versus the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse Eagles.
On Sunday morning in another closely matched, well-played game, the score was zero to zero until the final period when the Cyclones scored and won 2 to 0.
The Cyclones closed the season with a record of 9 wins, 13 losses and one tie. “It was a good year and this was a nice group of players to work with,” said Coach Mike Gilbert. “Thanks especially to our three graduating seniors, and thanks to assistant coach Alex Butera and everyone else who had a hand in making this an enjoyable experience.”
ISU played two exhibition games vs. University of Nebraska-Lincoln on April 5 and 6 (See game results). ISU won both games.
