Janelle Battista #3
Hometown:Clearwater, FL
Major:Veterinary Medicine
Hockey Experience: Janelle was born and raised in Florida and is currently in her second
year of veterinary school at Iowa State. Janelle has been playing ice hockey since she was 9 years old. Because
ice hockey was not very popular yet in Florida when she was growing up, Janelle mainly played on boys' teams.
However, she did play on an all-girls' team when she was 11 - The Thunder Girls won the first annual Sunshine
State Games for the women's ice hockey division in Florida.

Amanda Machacek #5
Hometown:Woodbury, MN
Major: Chemical Engineering
Hockey Experience: Amanda is a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering.
Her hockey-playing career began in 1996 with the Woodbury Area Hockey Club. She went on to play three
years on her high school team in Woodbury, Minnesota. Before living in Minnesota, "Hach" lived in California
and Chicago. Her younger brother Tom now plays for Woodbury.
Hach has been a speedy addition to the Cyclones. When she is not on the ice she can be found reading
chemistry books, listening to music, learning about her Czech heritage and text-messaging her father.

Laura Baseler #6
Hometown:Cedar Rapids, IA
Major: Veterinary Medicine
Hockey Experience: This is Laura’s first year playing for the Cyclones. She previously
played on a women’s ISU intramural ice hockey team last year and enjoyed it so much that she decided to play
for the Cyclones. She is looking forward to gaining experience
and having fun playing hockey at ISU this year!
Laura is finishing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a Masters in Meat
Science. She plans to complete a residency/PhD program in Veterinary Anatomic
Pathology after she graduates.

Erin Wessling #7
Hometown: Minneapolis, MN
Major: Animal Ecology
Hockey Experience: Erin began playing hockey at age 9 on her local park board team.
She eventually graduated to playing with various association teams such as the South Tigers and Washburn Millers.
In 10th grade, she represented her city by playing on the girls high school team—The Minneapolis Novas.
Erin is now in her 13th year of playing this great sport. She loves playing for the Cyclones!

Irma Tapia #9
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Major: M.S. Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Hockey Experience: Irma has been playing hockey for four years and finally feels like
she is making some progress. This is Irma's third year on the ISU team. She played for two years for Washington
State University where she learned how to skate and earned her B.S. in Zoology.
Outside of the ice rink, Irma can be found tracking a local population of white-tailed jackrabbits or working with
their DNA in the lab.

Houston, TX, then moved to Minnesota.
She played three years on the girls varsity team for John Marshall HS
in Rochester, MN.
Michaela currently plays forward and is excited to play for the ISU
Cyclones!

Sam Jenkins #14
Hometown: Wayzata, MN
Major: Undecided
Hockey Experience: Sam started playing hockey when she was 8 years old and has been
loving it ever since. Her high school team went to state for the first time in the history of their program her
sophomore year. She enjoys playing for the Cyclones, all the girls are awesome and it is always a good time!
Sam enjoys watching movies, staying busy and getting some sleep once in a while. Sam is continuing a hockey
family legacy at ISU. Her father played for the ISU Cyclone men’s hockey team a number of years ago.

Ali Webster #15
Hometown: Forest, Ontario, Canada
Major: Health and Human Performance
Hockey Experience: Ali lived in Canada until age 14, so she’s grown up around hockey.
She began playing pond hockey with friends and learned how to skate. “When my family moved to Iowa City, I
joined the Coral Ridge Rec League team for two years, and then played in Cedar Rapids for two years,” she says.
“Other interests include sports in general, hanging out with friends and I appreciate good music. I enjoy visiting
friends and relatives in Canada. Hockey is a big part of my life. I enjoy the game, the physical exercise and
the players on our team, and I’m very glad to be playing for the Cyclones.”

Catherine Swoboda #16
Hometown:Des Moines, IA
Major: M.S. Agronomy
Hockey Experience: Catherine grew up playing in the Des Moines Youth Hockey League,
and also for the Des Moines Storm during high school. This is her fifth year playing for the Cyclones and
she loves it.
Catherine is completing her Masters in Agronomy. Other than hockey, she enjoys exercising, music, art and travel.
She is a happy worker in the Soybean Extension Lab at ISU. Above all,
she loves to spend time with her friends and especially her family which includes Mama Swo, Papa Swo and big
brother Frank.

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Hockey Experience: This is Allison's second year playing hockey. She has always loved
the game and after years of watching the game she finally, decided to learn how to play.
Allison grew up in Venezuela and moved back to the United States about 7 years ago.

Alison Burns #20
Hometown:Johnston, IA
Major: Hotel,Restaurant & Institution Managment
Hockey Experience: Alison has been playing hockey for as long as she can remember.
She began playing roller hockey and transitioned to ice when she was 6. She made the Mite A Jr. Buccaneer team
when she was 7 and played travel ice hockey with the boys until she was a sophomore; then she played on the
Johnston High School hockey team until she graduated. Alison plays defense—definitely her favorite position—and
was a member of the 2001-2002 Tri-State Champion Jr. Buccaneer Travel team. Hockey is a big deal in her
family—her dad still coaches one of the high school teams and her brother, Jonathan (an ISU alum), plays, too.
Alison is a sophomore majoring in Hotel, Restaurant & Institution Management; she is especially interested
in event planning. This is her first season on the team; she’s learning how to juggle school, hockey, friends
and an internship at the ISU Foundation.

Gail Starr #22
Hometown:Eagan, MN
Major: Accounting
Hockey Experience: Gail has been playing hockey since she was 6 years old.
“I played Eagan Youth League hockey until 5th grade, then played Eastview Youth Hockey through 8th grade,”
she says. “Then I went on to play on the Eastview varsity team all four years of high school. I love the game.
It's fast, exciting and there's more strategy and teamwork involved than many people realize.” Gail
serves as treasurer for her Cyclone team this year.

Dominique Lind #23

Major:
Hockey Experience: Dominique, a Mason City native, has been playing hockey since she was 5.
She grew up playing boys hockey, but her 8th grade year went to Shattuck St. Mary’s to play with the girls.
She continued to play there until the end of her sophomore year. For the remaining high school years she returned to Mason City to play with the boys.
This is her third year at Iowa State and she recently switched majors to Child, Adult, and Family Services with the plans of receiving a minor in Spanish.

Katie Faulds #34
Hometown:Shoreview, MN
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Hockey Experience: Katie has been playing hockey for 13 years and has been holding strong
between the pipes for 9. This is her third year playing with the Cyclones. Katie continues the Faulds' hockey
legacy at ISU, following her sister who played for the Cyclones as well. Katie enjoys listening to music, watching
movies, traveling, and hanging out with her friends. She can frequently be found jamming out to her iPod. Katie
is working on a minor in German, and hopes to work in Germany someday. Katie earned All-American honors in 2006-2007 for her outstanding season in goal for the Cyclones.
She was named a 2nd Team All-American for the American Collegiate Hockey Association Women's Hockey Division 2.
