Outdoor Center

The YMCA Outdoor Center is dedicated to the preservation of Iowa's nature and
wildlife. With each season bringing a distinct beauty, the YMCA Outdoor Center
is a place to gather, a place to enjoy, and a place to learn about the outdoors
at any time of year.
The Outdoor Center features an extensive network of trails, and provides rest areas near the lodge with benches for weary hikers. The trails are also a great and beautiful place for cross-country skiers. With a new playground added in the summer of 2003, the Outdoor Center is a fun place for people of all ages.
The Lynn Fuhrer Lodge was built and dedicated as a memorial to Lynn Fuhrer in
1931. Lynn was an ISU student who made a lasting impression in the community
through his strong participation in capmpus activities and YMCA programming.
Lynn's life was cut short in 1931 in an automobile accident. In loving memory,
his parents built the lodge and presented it to the YMCA to operate with the
following purposes:
Creation and development of friendship
Stimulation and enrichment of fellowship
Appreciation and expression of the spiritual.
