The purpose of the African American Studies Society is to encourage on-going dialogue among students about key issues in African American Studies. The African American Studies Society expects that through engagement, dialogue and academic scholarship, members will help foster an inclusive and supportive community dedicated to gaining greater knowledge of issues impacting our society.

Membership Qualifications Students at Iowa State in good standing with the university
Membership Restrictions Only African Studies minors may serve as President.
Elections/Selection Simple majority
Meetings at least 3 times a term.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

There will be at least three executive meetings and three general meets each term. Time and place will be determined by executive board.

Description of Special Events

Special events have yet to be determined. We are hoping to include a few trips to educational places like the African American Museum in Cedar Rapids, the Jordan House in Des Moines. We may also hold screenings of important films and documentaries and hold a discussion after the viewing.
