Synapse is a national nonprofit organization that works to combat isolation often experienced by those with brain injury. Synapse at ISU provides a strong social support system by hosting bi-weekly peer support meetings and matching students with individuals with brain injury in a volunteer buddy system. These meetings are not treatment focused. They are not meant to serve as medical/health-related therapy or counseling. Instead, they are meant to build community and relationships. Synapse at ISU also brings speakers to campus to raise awareness to students and provide information on both acquired and traumatic brain injury patients.
