Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and service. Iowa State University’s Torch Chapter is a chapter of Mortar Board, Inc.

Allowed Officers no real limit - 7 officers this year
Membership Qualifications Must be at least a junior and maintain a GPA of in the upper 35% (3.22 or higher this past year).
Membership Restrictions Must be at least a junior and maintain a GPA of in the upper 35% (3.22 or higher this past year). No restriction on major.
Elections/Selection Elections are held at initiation once a year in the spring.
Meetings Meetings are held once a month. Meeting attendance is mandatory (with one excused absence)

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

Regular meetings take place once a month and discuss the business of the society.

Description of Special Events

Reading Initiative-- Northcrest Retirement Community. Members meet with residents of the Retirement Community and engage in a variety of volunteer activities
Reggie's sleep out Members participate in this event to raise awareness and funds for homelessness in the greater Des Moines area.
Iowa State Leadership Experience (ISLE) To fulfill the leadership portion of Mortar Board’s three pillars, members have the opportunity to volunteer with Iowa State Leadership Experience (ISLE), a leadership conference held at ISU.
Food at First - a volunteer opportunity for members at the First United Methodist Church in Ames
