The ISU Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was established on campus October 23, 1911 as the 6th chapter to be chartered. Today there are over 350 chapters at institutions across the United States and several international locations. It was originally organized to recognize excellent students in the technical disciplines. Those students were not being recognized for their achievements by other academic honor societies. Currently this Honor Society recognizes the superior scholarship of excellent students in all academic disciplines by inviting to membership ISU juniors, seniors and graduate students in the top 7.5 - 10% of their class. Membership in the ISU Honor Society can be a lifelong association.
