Description of Special Events

The Gamma Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. hosts its "Rent-A-Puppy" fundraising event every semester on the South Campanile Lawn of Iowa State University. During this two-day event, faculty and students are able to "rent-a-puppy" from local participating animal shelters/rescues for a minimum of 30 minutes. "Renters" can choose which puppy they wish to play with and most are up for adoption! Proceeds are split between the participating shelters/rescues and Sigma Lambda Gamma. Last year we raised over $2000 for the Boone Area Humane Society and Tama Humane Society.
This year we will be hosting our 14th Annual Charity Bowl Event in collaboration with the Omicron Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta National Fraternity, Inc. This event consists of competitive team bowling for an hour followed by a strolling competition. Our goal is to raise funds for A.C.C.E.S.S. Women's Shelter and support their efforts in providing a safe environment for people who have experienced domestic and sexual violence.
We will be hosting our 5th Annual Silent Auction for CURE in collaboration with Gamma Chi Chapter of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. All proceeds from this event are donated to Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE) to support their mission in finding a cure for epilepsy through raising funds for research and increasing awareness of the prevalence and devastation of the disease.
