CALS Week: America Runs on CALS

Monday, September 26th

  • FREE food on campus: Pizza (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Central Campus)
    • ​Visit with representatives from NEW Cooperative
  • Speaker: Dave Krog; Stalin 247 Autonomous Planter Entrepreneur (11:30 a.m. on central campus)
  • Block and Bridle Hunger Fight (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Kildee Hall Farm Bureau Pavilion)
  • ISU Creamery Tours (2:30 p.m. at the ISU Creamery, Food Science Building room 2955)
  • Mr. CALS (7:00 p.m. in the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center)
    • ​$5 ticket fee purchased from a Sigma Alpha sister before the event or at the door 
    • All donations raised benefit the Ames food pantry, Food at First

Tuesday, September 27th

  • FREE food on campus: Pork Chops on a Stick (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Central Campus)
    • ​Visit with representatives from the Iowa Soybean Association and POET
  • Speaker: Deanna Kovar: John Deere Vice-President of Production and Precision Agriculture Systems (11:30 a.m. on central campus)
  • CALS Olympics followed by ice cream (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Central Campus)
    • Registration open to CALS Council member clubs. ALL are welcome to spectate & enjoy ice cream!
  • Lecture from Dr. Antoine Alsto: "A Legacy of Excellence: The History of the New Farmers of America" (7:00 p.m. in the Curtiss Hall Dolezal Auditorium, room 127)

Wednesday, Sept. 28th 

  • FREE food on campus: Hamburgers (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Central Campus)
    • ​Visit with representatives from Landus Cooperative and Land O' Lakes
  • Speaker: Rebekah Sletten: America's Cultivation Corridor Public Affairs Manager (11:30 a.m. on central campus)
  • Dairy Science Club ice cream sales (11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the tent on central campus)
    • ​$2 for individual cups
  • Visit the Iowa Corn Education Trailer on campus (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. location TBD)
  • Deal Lecture from Ernie Shea: "21st Century Agricultural Renaissance: Solutions from the Land (7:00 p.m. in the Curtiss Hall Dolezal Auditorium, room 127)

Thursday, September 29th

  • FREE food on campus: Hot Beef Sundaes (11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Central Campus)

    • ​Visit with representatives from Seaboard Foods and River Valley Cooperative

  • Speaker: Mike Naig, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture (11:30 a.m. on central campus)

  • ISU Creamery Tours (2:00 p.m. at the ISU Creamery, Food Sciences Building room 2955)

  • Dodgeball fight presented by the Block & Bridle Club (6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. at the Hansen Agriculture Learning Center)


Friday, September 30th

  • CALS Week Fun Run/Walk (8:00 a.m. on central campus)
  • FREE breakfast on campus: Donuts, fruit, and granola bars (8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on central campus)

Sunday, October 2nd

  • Antique Tractor Show presented by the Antique Tractor Club (noon - 4:00 p.m. in the Advanced Teaching and Research Building parking lot)
