First-Year Council was created by the Government of the Student body in 1996 due to the overwhelming desire of the first-year class to form a distinct and unifying voice on the Iowa State University campus. First Year Council (originally known as “Freshmen Council”) is dedicated to the task of educating, supporting and representing the first-year class, as well as preparing them for future leadership roles at Iowa State University and beyond.

Constitution / Tier
||Required to be a general member of the Council before applying to be an officer.
||Must be a Freshman
||General Member application at the beginning of each semester. New Co-Chairs and Executive Board selected at the end of the fall semester.
||General meetings are Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Usually in the Cardinal Room of the Memorial Union.
Description of Regular Meetings/Activities
|General meetings are broken into 3 separate parts. Officer Updates, where the Exec Board and Committee Chairs give quick updates on Council business, Committee time, where each Committee works on their projects, and large group time where the whole Council works on the larger initiatives that the council takes.
Description of Special Events
|Freshmen Council puts on the events of Jingle Jog in the fall/winter and Volleybrawl in the spring. The Jingle Jog is scholarship run for Andy Albright, a former member of Freshmen Council who tragically passed away. Volleybrawl is a tournament played with a large volleyball played in the spring.
