Description

The Chess Club at Iowa State offers students the opportunity to play chess with their peers in a low-stress environment. We also host several chess tournaments a year for those who seek a more competitive game. We are also in the process of forming a chess team to compete nationally. Students and members of the general public of all skill levels, from beginner to master, are welcome to join us for an exciting game of chess! Membership Qualifications ISU Student members should be in good standing with the university. To be considered an active member you must attend at least 3 meetings per semester or 1 tournament per semester. Non-ISU club members aren't considered active members, but can still participate in meetings and tournaments.
Membership Restrictions
Elections/Selection Elections for President, Treasurer, VP, and Secretary will be held once a year at the beginning of the fall semester. We do offer other volunteer officer positions.
Meetings Mondays at 6:00pm - 8:00pm in Carver 202. No need to attend for the whole meeting, feel free to come and go as it works best for you.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

We hold regular weekly meetings lasting two hours, with the option to stay late. During meetings we play chess and sometimes solve chess puzzles as a team. Spring 2024 meetings are held every Monday starting January 22nd from 6:00pm-8:00pm in Carver 202.

Description of Special Events

Casual Tournaments: Each semester we hold a casual, unrated tournament. Location varies each semester. May offer candy or other prizes. Casual Tournaments are open to the public and all skill levels are encouraged.
USCF Rated Tournament: Each semester we hold a USCF Rated Tournament. Location can vary each semester. You must have a USCF membership and they can be purchased on site or online. Those prices vary on age and are posted on the USCF website. This tournament is also open to the public and all skill levels are encouraged.
