Freshmen Leaders in Engineering (FLiE) offers an opportunity to freshmen students to quickly make strides toward their long-term leadership goals. This student organization focuses on leadership development and provides a mechanism for mentoring and support activities. The deadline to apply for Freshmen Leaders in Engineering is in August before your freshmen year at Iowa State. Please do not request to join if this deadline has passed.

Membership Information

Student Members 4
ISU Members 0
Non-ISU Members 0
Allowed Members First year engineering freshmen who have just completed high school and are enrolled in his/her first semester at Iowa State University.
Allowed Officers Any elected member of FLiE
Membership Qualifications Leadership experience. Maintain a 2.5 GPA for his/her first fall semester.
Membership Restrictions Open only to freshmen engineers, excluding the President and Vice Presidents.
Elections/Selection Applicants are accepted at the end of August. Officer elections are held at the beginning of September. President, Vice President of Projects, and Vice President of Committees are elected at the end of March.
Meetings Thursdays at 7pm.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

Each week, FLiE focuses on ways to improving oneself as an engineer and leader. Company representatives, faculty, and others speak about various leadership topics. Other weeks, FLiE works on applying these presentations through activities and involvement.

Description of Special Events

FLiE will be hosting a leadership banquet for freshmen engineers during the National Engineers Week in February.
