ASA Hosts Soccer Tournament

Football (Soccer) is the most popular sport in Africa, probably the most popular sport in every African country. This sport was first introduced in Africa over 100 years ago by the British, French, and Portuguese colonialist. Although soccer is a popular sport in European countries, it gained extreme popularity in Africa due to its accessibility. Unlike many other team sports, soccer does not take much money or a great number of resources to play. For instances, soccer can be played on a flat field cleared of rocks, four poles or rocks to serve as goal-post and of course a ball. The ball itself can be homemade of local material. Soccer is accessible almost anywhere in Africa and is played mainly by young healthy people. The sport grew bigger after clubs began forming about 50 years ago in African cities, which lead to sponsorships and the formation of national championship teams. Today many African countries play in the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). Some countries include Cameroon, Nigerian, Eygept, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal and Ghana.

On November 3rd and 4th from 12 PM to 9 PM, African Students Association will be hosting our Fall Soccer tournament with the purpose of continuing and showcasing the sport loved by most African sports enthusiast.
