Description

The purpose of this chapter is that of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. which was set forth in its charter: principally to advance the arts and sciences of heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation and the allied arts and sciences, for the benefit of the general public. Furthermore this chapter will connect students with industry and professional ASHRAE members as well as encourage interactions between students with the common interest. The chapter’s goals include introducing the student to ASHRAE standards and helping students gain a passion for this industry through socials, design competitions, industry speakers, industry tours, and conference attendance. The mission of ASHRAE is to advance the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration and related human factors to serve the evolving needs of the public and ASHRAE. The vision of ASHRAE is to be the global leader in the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration; be the foremost, authoritative, timely and responsive source of technical and educational information, standards and guidelines; and be the primary provider of opportunity for professional growth, recognizing and adapting to changing demographics, and embracing diversity.

Membership Qualifications None, but experience in the HVAC/R field or any applicable area would add a great deal to our group dynamic.
Membership Restrictions None
Elections/Selection A formal application process will be duly noted, after which all selections will be named at the last meeting of each semester by the current leadership team.
Meetings Meetings are held once a month. Members will be notified about meetings via email.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

Our meetings regularly draw professionals from industry come speak with us about their area of expertise and experiences. Some meetings include facility tours which highlight HVAC/R systems and equipment.

Description of Special Events

ASHRAE Winter Conference: The ASHRAE Iowa State Student Chapter aims to send a group of students to the annual ASHRAE Winter Conference each year. To attend this conference you must complete an application and be selected by the ASHRAE leadership team. With helpful donations from the Iowa ASHRAE Chapter and other means of funding the trip will be completely paid for for all students attending with the Iowa State group.
