Fall 2018 BCBGSO Workshops
The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Graduate Student Organization (BCBGSO) is pleased to announce our annual UNIX and Python workshops. The aim of these workshops is to provide fundamental training in UNIX and Python for use in research. We are offering the following free one-day workshops:
- Basic UNIX on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 4 pm to 8 pm
- Advanced UNIX on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 12 pm to 4 pm
- Basic Python on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 4 pm to 7 pm
- Intermediate Python on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 4pm to 7 pm
- Advanced Python on Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 12 pm to 4 pm
The Basic UNIX workshop will cover topics such as directory navigation, basic file manipulation, basic search tools, and related material. The Advanced UNIX workshop will cover topics such as search tools, regular expressions, conditionals, loops, awk, and writing scripts.
The Basic Python workshop will cover Python syntax, data structures, conditionals, loops, and how to write a basic script. The Intermediate Python workshop will cover file input/output, writing functions, and writing more sophisticated scripts. In the Advanced Python workshop, we will cover Jupyter notebooks, data visualization, libraries, and do an exploratory data analysis on a dataset.
Unfortunately at this time, all spots in these workshops have been taken. Please be on the lookout for more information on our Spring 2019 workshops!
