Environmental Education Club

No upcoming events

The Environmental Education Club at Iowa State University is a student organization in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management. Our focus is in giving students experience in preparing and presenting public programs related to natural resources. We volunteer in the community, present programs at the Ames Public Library, Iowa State Lab School, and various other community organizations, and connect with professionals in our field.

The Environmental Education Club promotes teaching people of all ages topics that involve environment, ecology, etc.

We encourage people of all majors to join- we have something to offer for everyone. We especially encourage those looking into NREM Interpretation whose career goals include, but are not limited to: naturalists, park rangers, educators, etc.

Every other Monday at 6:00pm in Science Hall II room 115!

Last Words for the Semester

Hello everyone!

We have no more meetings this semester, so I apologize for no final meeting. I'd like to take this time to recognize Shakira Stowers and Zoe Pritchard as they graduate this semester. They are the former president and vice present of the club, and we wish both of them the best of luck to them on what's ahead. They are sure to do great things in their futures!

Our final program for the semester was a success! There were many people at our Northridge senior housing program. We had some live specimen and the people who came were very interested and asked a lot of thoughtful questions as well as shared insightful stories. Always remember that people learn many things from us, but be sure to talk especially to those of the older generations. They have a lot to offer.

Every place we have done a program at has requested us to come back, so spring semester is going to be B U S Y! I encourage you all to make time for these programs, as it is a great way to give to the community but also wonderful things for your resume (I was thinking of doing a resume session).

One last announcement: Don't forget to sign-up for SciNite or at least spread the word. Copied and pasted below are the details.

SciNite is a three hour event hosted by the Student Government Sustainability Committee tentatively planned for March 29th. The event focuses on highlighting sustainability projects by Iowa State University, as well as other educational topics surrounding sustainability, like the environment, etc. presented by Iowa State University students. Each presentation will last approximately 20 minutes, and in between each presentation, there will be a musical performance or a performance related to the arts, such as poetry, spoken word, stand-up, or dance lasting around ten minutes.

We created SciNite for people to present their work and interest in sustainability within a laid-back and humorous environment. We are seeking presenters who have a sense of humor and/or a strong passion for their topic (Google “Nerd Nite” if you want some inspiration). We are also looking for talented performers for in between each presenter. Their performance does not have to center around sustainability or the environment, but it is encouraged.

If you are interested in participating in SciNite, we ask that individuals fill out the Google Form by Friday, December 7th. We will review the forms and contact those interested shortly after.

Thank you all for working hard and making Environmental Education Club great. This has been one of the best semesters I have been a part of, and I want you all to recognize the hard work and passion you have put in. Thank you so much.

Best of luck to you all on finals, and have a wonderful winter break. I cannot wait to see you all again in the spring semester!
